Welcome to my blog

Hi There!

This being my very first entry in my new blog I wondered what to start with. A friend/writer suggested I go back to the beginning…when and why I started painting. Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest ones!

So where it began….well according to mom… I was born with crayons but the real art started for me when I did something I felt was ‘pretty good’. It was a drawing of Diana Ross from an album cover. I liked it and I wanted to do more and get even better. My creativity isn’t limited to painting though. I design and sew clothing, design and build furniture, upholster home furnishings, create jewelry, work at home building projects like crown molding, decorative wall treatments, sculpt in clay and stone, write and illustrate childrens books, pretty much if I can make it– I do!

But back to the fine art. From the drawing I went on to watercolor in my early twenties. I liked it and acheived signature status with the Ct Watercolor Society in the early 90s. At that point I was having some work framed and the gallery owner Betty Petrini asked if I would be interested in doing a solo show….hmmm…let me think for three seconds! Twenty years later I still show at Petrini Gallery. I did a show in oils after experimenting with them and really enjoyed the feel of the paint. The show was a near sell out and I am still captivated by oil painting. I worked with different artists around the country including Keven MacPherson, Ken Auster, Joe Mendez, Betty Billups and several others to learn different styles of painting and ways of interpreting what you see. The longer I paint the more I realize how much more there is to learn.

The purpose of this blog is to share ideas and the creative process whether you’re an artist or art lover. I encourage your comments, ideas, questions and experiences you’d like to share.

I look forward to ‘talking’ again soon!
